Why Your Marketing Isn’t Working (And What To Do About It).

Ever felt like you're doing all the things — posting, emailing, engaging, but still not seeing the results? You're not alone.

It’s not that your offer’s bad. Or that you need to dance on TikTok more. It’s that you’ve got bits and pieces of marketing… but no actual map.

Let’s fix that.

First off - what even is a sales funnel??

We wanna make this as straightforward as possible for you - no fancy jargon here.

A sales funnel is essentially the path someone takes from “never heard of you” to “ok, take my money”, and obviously, we want to get to that part.

It helps you know what to say, when to say it, and where to show up.

Here’s the breakdown:

Sales Funnel - Awareness, Consideration, and Decision

Top of Funnel (TOFU):
Awareness stage. People are discovering you.

Middle of Funnel (MOFU):
Consideration stage. People are checking you out.

Bottom of Funnel (BOFU):
Decision stage. People are ready to buy.

🚧 Where small businesses usually get stuck

Here’s where things start to slide:

  • You're posting on Instagram but not giving people a next step.

  • Your website looks good but doesn’t guide people anywhere.

  • You don’t have clear messaging or consistent branding, so people are confused about what you actually do.

Sound familiar?

How to map your marketing funnel like a pro

Understanding your sales funnel is only helpful if you actually do something with it. So here’s how to map out your funnel in a way that actually makes marketing feel easier.

  • This is where people are discovering you for the first time. Your goal here is reach and visibility. You're not trying to sell — you're just trying to make them aware of who you are.

Some Marketing Channels used in TOFU:

    • Organic social media (the stuff you post that you don’t pay to get in front of an audience e.g. viral Tik Tik video)

    • SEO blogs or articles

    • PR / features

    • Paid ads (awareness campaigns)

  • Now that they know who you are, you want to help them get to know, like, and trust you. This is where people are lurking, watching, clicking, but not quite ready to buy.

Some Marketing Channels used in MOFU:

    • Email Marketing

    • Case studies or testimonials

    • Freebie downloads

    • Webinars or mini trainings

    • Blog content that educates/deepens the connection

    • Influencer Marketing

  • Here’s where the magic happens — when someone is ready to buy or enquire. Your job is to remove friction and make it very easy to take that step.

Some Marketing Channels used in BOFU:

    • Landing Pages with strong calls-to-action

    • Booking forms / Calendly links

    • DMs or consult calls

    • Testimonials or portfolio pages

    • Pricing/service guides

    • Product Demo’s

    • Shopping Carts

📝 Map Your Own Funnel:

Step 1: List out all the ways people currently find you
(e.g. Instagram, referrals, Google search, word of mouth)

Step 2: Match each touchpoint to a funnel stage

  • Did your video show up on their FYP? TOFU.

  • Are they subscribed to your email list? MOFU.

  • Did they book a call? Make a purchase? BOFU.

Step 3: Ask yourself - do I have enough touchpoints at each stage? Is one stage working harder than the rest?
If you’re posting loads, but no sales? You’re missing MOFU.
If your website is strong, but no one’s landing there? You’re missing TOFU.

Step 4: Fill the gaps
If you're missing channels from your funnel stages, spend some time developing them.

Don’t build out loads. Keep it concise and manageable - strength doesn’t come in quantity, it comes in quality.

Example Funnel:

  • TOFU: Develop an awareness paid ad campaign that drives visibility, or offer a freebie to get prospects to sign up for your email newsletter.

  • MOFU: Set up a multi-stage welcome email for new subscribers or set up a targeted paid ads campaign that retargets your website viewers.

  • BOFU: Include strong CTA’s across your website, or email campaigns that drive action, offer a product demo or a free initial call, and set up automatic cart abandonment emails.

Step 5: Make sure your branding connects the dots

A funnel without consistent branding is like a nice meal on a dirty plate… it may be really tasty but you have already been put off just by looking at it. Your messaging, visuals and tone ABSOLUTELY need to feel consistent across every single touchpoint.

🛠 Quick Fixes That Actually Help

✅ Add a lead magnet (a freebie/incentive) to your site to encourage email sign-ups.
✅ Map every piece of content to a funnel stage.
✅ Ensure your brand messaging is clear and consistent (engage a brand designer to refresh your vibe).
✅ Add a clear CTA on everything you post (don’t make people guess).

💡 The Most Important thing to note!!

Branding = Fuel for the Funnel
If your brand isn’t doing its job, the funnel wont work. Branding gives your audience a reason to trust you, remember you, and choose you.

So before you throw another hundred bucks at ads or stress-post a reel at 11pm, make sure your brand and funnel are actually working together.
